    Shuaibu takes over as Ogun 1 Customs Controller, pledges balance between enforcement, trade facilitation

    Deputy Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu has taken the reins as the new Customs Area Controller for Ogun 1 Command, succeeding Comptroller James Ojo, who retired after 35 years of service.

    Shuaibu pledged to strike a balance between enforcement and trade facilitation, acknowledging the complexities of border operations in Ogun 1 Command, a critical frontier for trade and security.

    With his experience as an anti-smuggling officer and leader of the disbanded Sector 2 of the Joint Border Patrol Team, Shuaibu is well-equipped to tackle the challenges ahead.

    His vision for Ogun 1 Command is built around teamwork, innovation, and discipline, with a focus on upholding the values and mission of the Nigeria Customs Service.

    Shuaibu has also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other stakeholders, including traditional rulers and sister security agencies, to ensure border security and facilitate legitimate trade across the border.

    The ceremony had in attendance, representatives of the Customs Service from the neighbouring Republic of Benin as well as those from other sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service and the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), among others.

    The outgoing CAC, Ojo, also urged NCS personnel to extend their cooperation to the new controller, setting the stage for a smooth transition.

    This development marks a significant milestone for Ogun 1 Command, and it will be interesting to see how Shuaibu’s leadership shapes the command’s operations in the coming months.

    Speaking at the event, Shuaibu pledged to deploy the experiences he had garnered while leading the recently disbanded Sector 2 of the federal government’s Joint Border Patrol Team during the period he will be holding sway as the CAC of the Command.
