A pregnant woman has allegedly set her lover identified as Sunny Amadi ablaze in Rivers State.
Reports say the victim on Sunday passed on following severe burns from the incidence, while the lady, 25-years-old is receiving treatment in a hospital.
The incident happened at Choba Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, Saturday.
It was alleged that the lady, who carried out the act, identified as Cynthia Chukwunda, is a 300-level Student of University of Port Harcourt and is pregnant for the victim, Sunny.
A source said the victims and suspect are from the Emohua Local Government Area.
Cynthia, who is eight-months pregnant was hospitalised after the incident following some degrees of burns she also received from the incident.
The source, who gave his name simply as Emmanuel, alleged that Sunny just visited the lover that morning before the incident.
Emmanuel said the Cynthia had left her room open to purchase some stuff and that when she came back that her lover, who she has not seen for over 6 months was already lying on her bed.
He said argument had ensued between them on why Sunny visited and that the suspect had gone outside and came back later with fuel while her estranged lover was already asleep.
It was gathered that lady had sprinkled the fuel round the bed and on the victim, and lit fire.
Emmanuel said the incident occurred at Chukwundah’s residence in Choba and that Amadi had paid her a visit.
Emmanuel said: “Sunny came to visit his girl. Although from the statements, Sunny has not been seeing the girl for a long time after he impregnated her.
The guy came that morning to visit her, and got there when the girl was not around. Hen entered the room and laid on the bed.
“When Cynthia came back she saw Sunny on her bed. She was not happy. After some argument, Cynthia left the room. She came back later and saw him sleeping. She poured the fuel and lit fire.”
However, at press time, the Rivers State Police Command has not issued any official statement on the development, but the Choba Police Division responded to the incident.
