Jos – Senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly, Diket Plang has urged Nigerians to support credible initiatives that would add value to governance and not live in fear of any good initiative emanating from any region of the country.
Plang spoke in Jos on Tuesday morning in a reaction to the ongoing controversy about the proposed tax reforms which President Bola Tinubu insisted is here to stay.
The Senator who spoke with journalists on sundry issues shortly after giving out bags of rice to some members of his constituency across the diverse background ahead of the Christmas celebration, noted Nigerians must trust one another for the country to progress.

He said among other things, “We shouldn’t live in fear. Nigeria is a great country. We must be very cohesive. We must trust one another.
Sometimes, for the fact that a bill is coming from one section, lack of trust is so much in us that somebody will think probably the bill is to checkmate us.
“But I want to assure you that the pros and cons of the bill will be looked into. And where we feel it doesn’t represent the interest of Nigerians; we will look into them.
“I’m not an expert in economics, but again, I’m representing the people; I need to hear the opinion of the people too.
One thing about President Bola Tinubu is that he is very original in thinking, and sometimes it’s very difficult for people to begin to believe in a theory because Nigerians probably would want to know the pros and cons of the theory before they believe.”
On the ongoing economic hardship in the country, he stated, “I want to tell you that a change is always a very difficult issue to manage.
It’s not just the ordinary Nigerians that are feeling it. We are also feeling it because when your constituents are hungry, it means you will have a lean pocket.
“Whatever you have, it has to go out. Unlike before, you don’t see people coming to see you to collect three measures of rice, and they are happy. But today, I know that things are expensive.
“But then, the financial advantages of these changes, if they are accurately plowed back to the people, will reduce the suffering of the people.”
Senator Plang also reiterated the need for the establishment of a University of Mining and Geosciences to groom experts who would effectively harness the potential in the mining sector for maximum benefits.
On Christmas, he stressed, “Christmas is one of the most important periods in the calendar of Christians the world over.
As a representative of the people of Plateau Central, I need to give something small at least to add to the number of dishes for my constituents to celebrate during Christmas.”
