Minna– Less than one month after the devastating Mokwa flood that claimed over 200 lives with valuable properties swept off, another flood has occured in Bida, headquarters of Bida local government area of Niger state.

This is also coming in less than two weeks in which flood occured in the same town during which some buildings, bridges and culverts were swept off with no life lost.

The latest flood occured after a heavy downpour that lasted for three hours in the morning on Thursday claiming the life of a seven year old boy, Mohammed Mohammed of Nasarafu ward.

It was reliably gathered that the deceased was sent to a neighborhood immediately after the rain had stopped but unfortunately, he was swept off by flood resulting from the torrential rainfall.

Efforts by passers-by and neighbors to rescue him proved abortive as nobody could risk jumping into the flood.

Father of the deceased, Mohammed Usman who spoke with Journalists expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident adding that the corpse was yet to be recovered.

“The incident is an act of God but My pain is that up to this moment that I am speaking with you, the corps of my son is yet to be found.

“Immediately the rain stopped, the entire community embarked on the search and rescue mission but unfortunately, we are yet to get the corps,” Malam Usman lamented.

It would be recalled that on Saturday 14th June 2025, similar flood occured in Bida around GRA- Federal Polytechnic road which led to the collapse of some buildings, a bridge, culvert and some business premises.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA Hussaini Ibrahim confirmed the incident but did not give details saying,”the Agency is presently conducting an assessment of the incident and after the findings, the State Government will respond accordingly.
