It Was an inspiring and memorable day at the Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday, as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Hon. Opeyemi Adunni Akindele symbolically handed over her seat to Master Olukayi Opeyemi, a Junior Secondary School pupil of Abesan Junior High School, to serve as the council’s One-Day Chairman.

The council’s Vice Chairman, Hon. Akintola Falade, also vacated his position for Master Bamgbose Toluwanimi, a primary school pupil of Estate Primary School, Abesan, who acted as the One-Day Vice Chairman.

The duo emerged winners of the LCDA’s Spelling Bee competition in the secondary and primary school categories, respectively. Their victory earned them the opportunity to experience governance first-hand, as part of the council’s youth mentorship and educational development initiative.

During his brief tenure, Master Opeyemi, in his inaugural address, expressed deep gratitude to the council boss for providing him the platform to lead and learn. He also thanked his teachers, parents, and friends for their constant support and encouragement.

To broaden their understanding of grassroots administration, the duo were conducted round all departments and offices within the council secretariat. The exercise was led by the council boss, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi; her vice chairman, Hon. Akintola Falade; members of the council’s legislative arm, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Tosin Babatunde Afuwape SNR.; the Chief of Staff to the Council Chairman, Hon. Falope Tolutope; HOD Education, Mrs Mojisola Ajileye; members of the management staff, NULGE, among others.

During the exercise, the Head of the Information Unit, Mrs. Apunanwu Rosemary Uneanya, took time to explain the functions of each department and how they contribute to the smooth running of the local government.

Hon. Adunni further enlightened them on the organogram of the LCDA, highlighting the roles of the executive and legislative arms, as well as the responsibilities of councillors and the wards they represented.

At the legislative chamber, the Council Leader, Hon. Tosin Babatunde Afuwape, along with other councillors, held a brief impromptu sitting in honour of the One-Day Chairman and Vice Chairman. The session offered them a practical insight into legislative proceedings.

During the sitting, the Deputy Leader, Hon. Kehinde Yakub, read out a list of ongoing developmental projects across the five wards of the LCDA, including road rehabilitation, education, health, empowerment, and staff welfare initiatives.

The Leader of the House, Hon. Afuwape, also passed a vote of confidence on the council chairman for her continued commitment to progress, while the Majority Leader, Hon. John Ibijemilusi, called for an adjournment of the legislative sitting.

The day’s event continued at the council hall with the presentation of certificates to participants of a two-week intensive training on digital marketing, where Master Opeyemi exercised his full right as the One-Day Chairman. He was accorded the opportunity of presenting certificates to the graduands.

The highlight came when the legislative arm donated ₦100,000 to support the One-Day Chairman and ₦50,000 to the One-Day Vice Chairman in recognition of their remarkable achievements.

Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi and Hon. Akintola Falade presented letters of achievement and certificates of office to both students, replicas of the certificates of return presented to elected officials.

The council boss prayed for their continued success, encouraging them to strive for excellence and make their parents and the LCDA proud in the future.
