It is with profound reverence and deep sense of loss that we pay tribute to the illustrious reign and enduring legacy of the late Olu Epe of Epe, Oba Shefiu Adewale, Bamgbopa I, Eshilokun.

His life was a testament to true leadership rooted in peace, altruism, humility, and unwavering dedication to the growth and prosperity of Epe Kingdom. His contributions transcend mere titles, leaving an indelible mark on the socio-cultural fabric of our community, inspiring generations yet unborn.

Oba Shefiu Adewale, Bamgbopa I exemplified peace in an era often marred by discord. In my first interview with him after mounting the throne, he vowed he would stop at nothing to ensure peace in Epe land and demystify the dichotomy between the Ijebu-Epe and Eko-Epe. He did. His reign was characterized by a calming presence that united diverse groups within Epe, fostering harmony and understanding among his subjects. His approach to leadership was founded on a genuine love for all classes of people, regardless of their social status or background. This love manifested in his altruistic endeavors, always seeking ways to serve humanity and elevate the living standards of his people.

One of the most remarkable legacies of Oba Adewale is his unwavering commitment to youth engagement and development. Recognizing that the future of Epe depended on its youth, he dedicated himself to nurturing young talents, fostering education, and creating opportunities for empowerment. His initiatives aimed at youth development have left a lasting impact, ensuring that the younger generation could aspire toward greatness with hope fortified by his visionary leadership.

Moreover, Oba Adewale’s dedication to socio-cultural development was exemplary. His leadership saw the dramatic transformation of the Epe Kayokayo festival from a modest local celebration into a grand cultural event that attracts tourists and dignitaries from far and wide. Under his guidance, Kayokayo blossomed into a symbol of Epe’s rich heritage and cultural identity, boosting local tourism, stimulating economic growth, and rekindling pride among Epe people. This transformation is a testament to his ability to engage the youth and utilise their fresh ideas appropriately, blend tradition with modernity, ensuring that our cultural heritage remains vibrant in an evolving world.

Humility was a hallmark of his character. He carried himself with grace and simplicity, always accessible and considerate of others. His humility endeared him to both the high and the low, making him a ruler admired for his genuine concern for all. His dedication to the growth of Epe Kingdom was unwavering, and he worked tirelessly to ensure that his reign uplifted the community morally, socially, and economically.

In reflecting on his life, we recognize that Oba Shefiu Adewale, Bamgbopa I, Eshilokun, was more than a traditional ruler; he was a statesman, a cultural ambassador, and a father figure to many. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of Epe’s progress and cultural resurgence. As we mourn his departure, we also celebrate his monumental achievements, which serve as guiding lights for ongoing development and unity.

May the soul of Oba Adewale find eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us to pursue peace, altruism, and cultural excellence. Epe has indeed lost a remarkable leader, but his spirit and vision will forever remain embedded in the heart of our community.

Long live the legacy of Oba Shefiu Adewale Bamgbopa I, Eshilokun!
