A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure, has taken a swipe at politicians defecting from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of being driven by greed or fear of anti-graft agencies rather than political ideology.

“I don’t lose sleep over their defection,” Kazaure said. “Just look at those leaving the PDP for the APC , it’s either they are looking for money, contracts from Bola [Tinubu], or they are afraid of the EFCC. I’m not disturbed at all. In fact, I now sleep very well and even snore. Very soon, their romance with the APC will hit a brick wall.”

Speaking in an interview with the RFI Hausa Service, the former minister reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, saying he had no plans to join the ruling party.

“It’s just a matter of time before confusion sets in,” he predicted. “Those already in the APC and eyeing elective positions in 2027 will clash with the defectors. As for me, I’m staying in the PDP. In fact, it’s now that I’m even reinvigorating my membership. Nobody can entice me with money to leave.”

Kazaure’s remarks come amid a wave of defections from the PDP to the APC across several states, a development that has continued to stir political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
