    Plateau plans cultural festival to foster harmony among citizens

    JOSTo boost the tourism sector in Plateau State, and celebrate the unity in its diversity, a cultural festival is planned for the festive season to showcase the culture and foster harmony among the diverse groups in the State.

     

    Speaking on the importance of the event in fostering societal cohesion, Debrah Jalmet, a member of the organizing committee, said the event tagged Plateau Cultural Carnival with the theme: Celebrating Unity in Diversity would unveil the people’s love for their heritage.

     

    Her words, “The 2024 edition of the Plateau Cultural Carnival 2024: Celebrating Unity in Diversity will be held on December 30th and 31st,

    2024. This year’s theme reflects our commitment to showcasing the rich tapestry of Plateau’s culture while fostering harmony and mutual

    appreciation among its diverse ethnic groups.

     

    “Plateau has a legacy of cultural celebration and the Plateau Cultural Carnival continues to grow in impact and popularity. The previous edition,

    held on May 6th, 2023, drew thousands of participants and spectators, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cultural pride and community spirit. From colourful parades to captivating performances, it was a true testament to the Plateau people’s love for their heritage.

    “The 2024 Carnival is set to build on this legacy with even more exciting activities and greater participation. The mission of the Plateau Cultural Carnival is to preserve, promote, and celebrate Plateau State’s diverse cultural heritage, fostering unity and understanding through creative and artistic

    expressions. Our vision is to establish the Plateau Cultural Carnival as a global platform for cultural preservation, growth, and appreciation, inspiring pride, unity, and economic empowerment, as

    well as showcasing Plateau’s beautiful tourism potential.”

     

    The event will showcase a cultural parade showcasing Plateau’s ethnic diversity through traditional attire, music, and dance, cultural performances, keynote addresses, and goodwill

    messages from distinguished guests, art and food exhibitions to showcase Plateau’s artistic creativity and culinary

    delights, highlighting local dishes and craftsmanship, dance and drama presentations to tell compelling stories of unity and resilience

    through traditional and contemporary performances, among others.

     

    Jalmet noted the event will serve as a beacon for documenting and celebrating Plateau’s unique traditions and practices, promote dialogue, understanding, and collaboration among Plateau’s diverse communities, and provide a platform for local artisans, vendors, and performers to showcase their talents and products.
