Pensioners in Osun State are celebrating a major victory as Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has implemented a minimum pension of N25,000, a move hailed as unprecedented in the state’s pension history.

This development was announced during the 2024 Elders’ Day celebration at the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) House in Osogbo.

Elder Ganiyu Salawu, Chairman of the NUP, praised Governor Adeleke’s pensioner-friendly stance, citing the free health insurance policy for union members as a testament to his commitment to their welfare.

“The N25,000 minimum pension is a groundbreaking achievement, and we’re grateful for the governor’s dedication to our well-being,” Salawu said.
However, Salawu also appealed to the governor to consider implementing the 33% consequential increment, already adopted by other southwest states, to further alleviate pensioners’ suffering.

Bamidele Oyebade, Special Adviser to Governor Adeleke on Labour and Industrial Relations, reassured the pensioners that the administration prioritizes workers’ welfare, both active and retired.

This move demonstrates Governor Adeleke’s commitment to improving the lives of Osun State pensioners.

Governor Adeleke’s administration has made significant strides in pension payments, surpassing the previous administration’s 12-year record with N12.7 billion paid within just one and a half years.
