The first-year memorial service of former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew in Owo, with dignitaries paying tribute to his legacy.

Bishop Stephen Fagbemi described Akeredolu as a bold and courageous leader who would have spoken out against the current hardship in Nigeria if he were alive.

“If he were alive today, no doubt he would have spoken against the current state of hunger and hardship in our land,” Bishop Fagbemi said.

The event also saw the launch of a biography titled “The Life and Times of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu” and the planting of trees in honor of the late governor.

His son, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Jnr., expressed his sadness, saying it had been a tough year without his father.

“It has been a long, tough year that we have been without Daddy around. I’m definitely missing Dad a lot,” Akeredolu Jnr. said.

In a significant development, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced that the new High Court Complex would be named after Akeredolu, recognizing his contributions to the state’s development.

The complex, expected to be completed within 48 weeks, will feature modern facilities, including ceremonial and modular courts, a registry, and a library.

“This development is the actualization of the dream and vision of our late leader, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. It was his desire to provide a state-of-the-art High Court Complex to enhance the workload and welfare of our judiciary,” Governor Aiyedatiwa said.

Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s commitment to advancing justice and the welfare of judicial officers. The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Hon. Justice Olusegun Odusola, praised the initiative, saying it would elevate the judiciary to global standards.

“This complex will elevate the judiciary to global standards with modern facilities capable of competing with any judicial system in the world,” Justice Odusola said.
