As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has highlighted the country’s remarkable progress under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his Independence Day speech at the National Press Centre in Abuja, today, Idris noted that the theme of this year’s celebration, “All Hands On Deck,” is a call to action for all Nigerians and the international community to support the government’s reforms.
“We are witnessing a significant transformation in our nation, with the Renewed Hope Agenda driving prosperity, peace, and unity,” Idris said. “Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are laying the building blocks for a greater future, and we need collective participation to sustain the progress being made.”
The Minister highlighted several achievements of the Tinubu administration, including a growing trade surplus, declining inflation, strengthening currency, and increasing external reserves. He also mentioned the implementation of the Tax Acts quartet, which will expand the nation’s revenue base and simplify tax collection.

In the area of infrastructure development, Idris cited the construction of several major highways, including the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. He also mentioned the revival of the 255MW Kaduna Power Plant and the implementation of the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project, which will deliver clean and off-grid electricity to over 17.5 million Nigerians.
In the healthcare sector, the Minister noted that over 1,000 primary health care centres have been rehabilitated across the country, and three advanced oncology centres have been commissioned.
Idris emphasized that the Tinubu administration is committed to balanced and inclusive development, with no region being left behind. He called on all Nigerians to join hands with the government to consolidate the gains of the past two and a half years and build a greater Nigeria.
“Let us continue to believe in Nigeria, because together, we can make our country greater than ever before,” Idris said, urging Nigerians to stay hopeful and patriotic. “Happy Independence Day, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
