Lagos Muslim Community rallies NAHCON, rejects ICPC corruption risk label

    Published on

The Lagos State Muslim Community has thrown its weight behind the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), condemning and rejecting the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission’s (ICPC) classification of NAHCON as a “high corruption risk” agency.

In a statement signed by the President, Muhammed Oyinlomo Danmole, the community expressed its unequivocal support for NAHCON, commending its transparency and commitment to addressing the ICPC’s concerns. The community emphasized that the ICPC’s Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (ECIS) is a diagnostic tool aimed at identifying procedural lapses, rather than an indictment of corruption.

The community acknowledged the challenges faced by NAHCON, including leadership changes and operational complexities, which may have contributed to the flagged status. However, it noted that NAHCON has implemented proactive measures to address these challenges, including reinforcing adherence to financial rules and demanding compliance with institutional standards.

The Lagos State Muslim Community urged the public to interpret the ICPC’s report in its proper context, recognizing that a “high corruption risk” label is not a declaration of guilt but an opportunity for improvement. The community also called on the ICPC to refine its assessment process to reflect the unique operational challenges faced by agencies like NAHCON.
