Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has received an honorary Doctorate Degree of Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and public service.
The award was conferred during FUTO’s 36th Convocation ceremony, where Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also received honorary degrees.
Professor Zulum, a distinguished academic and professor of Irrigation Engineering, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the institution’s Visitor, for the honor.
He praised the president’s establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), which supports students in tertiary institutions, and assured that state governors would support the initiative.

Zulum emphasized the importance of introducing job-creating courses tailored to the modern economy, advising FUTO to offer courses that prepare graduates for entrepreneurship and self-employment.
He also announced plans for a partnership between the Borno State Government and the Government of Imo State to support the FUTO in advancing teaching, learning, and research ¹.
The ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including senators, APC officials, and traditional leaders. Governor Zulum was accompanied by a delegation that included Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Mohammed Tahir Monguno.
In related developments, Senator Oluremi Tinubu dedicated her award to the Girl Child, announcing a N50 million endowment fund for the best graduating female student of FUTO.
Governor Uzodinma pledged to sponsor one of the university’s projects and expressed commitment to President Tinubu’s administration.
