The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly condemned the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) criticism of the state government’s implementation of the N75,000 minimum wage for local government employees and education authority staffers.

The NLC described the PDP’s comments as “ill-fated, unwarranted, and ill-informed”.
Comrade Murtala Usman, the NLC branch chairman, accused the opposition party of deviating from constructive criticism to personal attacks on the government and the union.

He labeled the PDP’s statement describing the minimum wage implementation as “mere words, not action” as sabotage and obnoxious.

Usman emphasized that Kebbi State was the first to swiftly implement the minimum wage for both state workers and local councils, unlike other states that excluded local governments.

This achievement, he attributed to Governor Nasir Idris’ understanding of local councils’ importance as a former unionist.
The NLC viewed the PDP’s criticism as driven by envy, considering the significant accomplishments of the union and Governor Idris in ensuring prompt payment of gratuities, pensions, and other entitlements within two years.

The governor has also transformed Kebbi State into a modern city, earning pride from its indigenes.
The PDP had alleged discrepancies in minimum wage implementation, claiming some local government employees received less than N40,000.

However, the NLC maintains that the opposition party lacks knowledge on the implementation methods used in Kebbi State.
