The Department of State Services (DSS) in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, invited Comrade Jamiu Olayinka, Convener of Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum, for questioning on Thursday.
Olayinka, who was at work, was asked to present himself at the DSS office by 10:00 a.m. that morning.
Accompanied by his lawyers and members of the native group, Olayinka honored the invitation. He was not detained but was questioned about the lawsuit against the Lagos State Government regarding the Dangote Refinery’s $100 million land deal.
Olayinka confirmed that the DSS inquiry was related to the lawsuit. “I was asked about the case, and I stated that we will not back down. I have every right to sue the Lagos State Government for the issues,” he said.
The DSS officer asked about the association’s backing, and Olayinka presented the group’s registered certificate with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The officer appeared perplexed upon seeing the certification.
Olayinka’s experience with the DSS suggests an attempt to pressure the group into withdrawing from the lawsuit. However, the group remains resolute.

Yakubu Eleto Chambers, the lawyers representing the Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum, expressed concerns that the Lagos State Government is using the DSS to intimidate their clients. Instead of providing answers to questions about the $100 million payment, the government has resorted to intimidation tactics.
Principal Partner and human rights lawyer, Barrister Yakubu Eleto Esq, stated, “We are representing De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, who sought information under the Freedom of Information Act regarding the $100 million payment. The Lagos State Government failed to provide the information, leading us to seek a court order. The Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum, directly affected by the development, joined the case. Instead of committing to the rule of law, Governor Sanwo-Olu is using the DSS to pressure and intimidate the natives, which is unacceptable.”
