The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has set in motion plans for a grand coronation ceremony with the constitution of a 97-member committee.
Chaired by Dr. Kunle Ogunmola, a seasoned technocrat and former INEC Commissioner, the committee aims to ensure a seamless and culturally rich ceremony that celebrates the Yoruba heritage.
Prince Owoade Adediwura will serve as the Vice Chairman, alongside other key members, including Prince Owoade Olayide, Prince Owoade Kazeem Ayoade, and Princess Azees Fatimo (nee Owoade). The committee also boasts an impressive lineup of traditional leaders, politicians, and community representatives.
According to the Chief of Staff to the monarch, Rotimi Osuntola, the inaugural meeting of the committee is scheduled for February 12, 2025, at the Alaafin’s Palace in Oyo. The formation of the committee is aimed at uniting Yorubaland and encouraging broad participation from stakeholders in the region and beyond.
The coronation ceremony is expected to be a historic occasion that showcases the vibrant culture of the Yoruba people. With the committee in place, preparations are underway to ensure a memorable and grand celebration.
