Port Harcourt Refinery dispels rumors, operating at 70% capacity — Bayo Onanuga

A fact-finding team led by Bayo Onanuga, Director of Communications and Strategic Planning, All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, recently visited the 60,000-barrel-per-day Port Harcourt Refining Complex.

The team’s findings have put to rest speculation about the refinery’s capabilities.
Guided by Managing Director Ibrahim Onoja, the team thoroughly inspected the facility, from the computerized control room to the loading bay. They posed probing questions and received satisfactory responses, dispelling initial doubts.

“The purpose of our visit was to verify the rumors circulating about the refinery’s state, and I am pleased to report that we were satisfied with what we saw,” Onanuga stated. “Nigerians must ignore naysayers and false information about the refinery’s operations.”

Contrary to widespread misinformation, the refinery operates at 70% installed capacity and receives regular crude supplies. Plans are underway to increase production. The facility produces various petroleum products, including kerosene, diesel, gasoline and LPG.

“The refinery’s recent overhaul has transformed it into a modern facility,” Onanuga observed. “We saw upgraded and replaced parts, including 300 kilometers of new pipelines.

What was once a 20th-century refinery has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility.”
The adjacent second Port Harcourt refinery, commissioned in 1989, is undergoing similar revitalization. Workers are diligently replacing outdated parts, paving the way for imminent operationalization.

“My curiosity has been satisfied,” Onanuga concluded. “I commend NNPC Limited and the refinery team for reviving this dead asset, which was on the verge of becoming a museum piece
