In a move aimed at boosting the welfare of its personnel, the headquarters of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, has presented electric motorcycles to deserving soldiers.

The gesture, which aligns with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s drive for sound administration and troops’ welfare, seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuel and promote environmental sustainability.

According to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the presentation recognizes and rewards the exceptional performance of personnel who have been outstanding and professional in carrying out their duties.

“We are gathered here today to recognize and reward the exceptional performance of some personnel who have been outstanding and professional in carrying out their duties,” he said.

A total of 16 electric motorcycles were distributed to deserving personnel, who were selected from various branches, cells, and formations directly affiliated to the headquarters 3 division.

The motorcycles, which have a marginal speed of 40 kilometers per hour, can cover a distance of 100 kilometers when fully charged.
The Chief of Staff, 3 Division, Brigadier General Aminu Gumel, explained that the electric motorcycles are both efficient and eco-friendly, and will serve as a sustainable mode of transportation within the cantonment.

“This means that with a single charge, one can comfortably use the bike to his workplace within the cantonment for a complete week without recharging,” he said.

The GOC also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Oluyede, for his support to 3 Division, citing various interventions aimed at enhancing troops’ welfare, including the renovation and construction of new accommodation, new offices complex, and the provision of resources to enable personnel effectively carry out their duties.

In a related development, the outgoing Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the 3 Division, Army Warrant Officer Umar, was presented with gift items as he retires from service. Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Warrant Officer Fidelis Ibrahim commended the GOC for the gesture, stressing that it would spur them to do more.
