The Senate has called for an immediate nationwide mop-up of light arms and small weapons to address the rising spate of armed violence.

This demand follows a motion sponsored by Senator Emmanuel Udende, highlighting the ongoing killings in Benue State, particularly in Logo Local Government Area.

The Senate condemned the attacks, allegedly perpetrated by armed herdsmen, which have resulted in the loss of nearly 50 lives since October 2024.

The lawmakers urged the security agencies to deploy additional personnel and resources to restore peace and order in the affected areas.

The Senate also directed the National Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate relief materials and assistance to displaced persons in the affected communities.

Furthermore, the lawmakers called for expedited action on setting up ranches in each of the 774 local government areas across Nigeria to restrict cattle movements.
