Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating barriers that hinder Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from participating in leadership positions.

In his goodwill message for the International Day of Persons with Disability, Otti emphasized his administration’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their abilities.

“The vision and mission of our government are to reduce the incidence of disability in Abia State through investments in education, healthcare, and accessible services and infrastructure,” Otti stated.

He highlighted the Abia State Disability Law as the guiding framework for these initiatives.

This year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” resonates with Otti’s campaign manifesto.

The state government aims to ensure representation of PWDs at all levels of leadership.
Notably, the Abia State Disability Commission comprises entirely of persons with disabilities, and six PWDs have been appointed to key positions. Otti’s administration is committed to enhancing leadership capacities and integrating PWDs into all aspects of life, stressing that decisions about PWDs should involve PWDs.

Otti urged Abians to resist discrimination, stigma, and isolation of individuals with disabilities.

His Special Assistant on PWDs, David Anyaele, conveyed the Governor’s message, thanking Otti for his appointment and highlighting ongoing efforts to address challenges faced by PWDs.
