Abia indigenes beg Gov Otti to lead campaign for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

Abia State indigenes resident in Anambra State have urged Governor Alex Otti to lead a campaign for the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The group made the call during their end-of-year party in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to Bishop (Dr.) Innocent Chidi, President of Abia Ministers’ Forum in Anambra State, “it has become imperative that Governor Otti should lead the campaign for the release of Nnamdi Kanu because he is Kanu’s Governor.” Chidi emphasized that the Governor should reach out to other South East Governors to join him in the struggle to ensure Kanu’s release.

Comrade Damian Ogudike, President of Abia State indigenes in Anambra State, noted that Governor Otti has performed well in many areas since assuming office. However, Ogudike stated that expectations from Otti now include placing more emphasis on security and Kanu’s release. “We don’t want Kanu to spend this year’s Christmas and New Year in prison custody because the implication is that the current spate of insecurity in the South East will persist,” Ogudike said.

The group also commended Governor Otti for his efforts in addressing insecurity in the state, particularly his bold step in dismantling a terrorist network. They, however, urged him to focus on securing Abia State and creating worker-friendly policies to avoid clashes with workers.
Bishop Chidi also tasked Governor Otti to ensure prompt payment of civil servants’ salaries, pensions, and gratuities, as well as steady improvement of the quality of education in the state.
