At least six persons were feared dead in a renewed attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Ayilomo community of Logo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

It was gathered that the attack which started Friday evening and spilled into Saturday came just two days after a similar incident in Anyiin community in the same LGA claimed no fewer than 15 lives.

The latest attack according to a source in the area who spoke on condition of anonymity started at about 6pm Friday when the suspected armed herdsmen stormed the community from neighbouring Taraba state and started shooting at defenseless residents.

He said “the people who are majorly farmers had just returned from their farms at about 6pm when the armed herdsmen stormed the community and opened fire on  them.

“People started fleeing their homes. Fortunately the military and police came in and confronted them and they retreated but this was not before three persons lost their lives and many others sustained injuries.

“The armed men again invaded Ayilamo on Saturday afternoon in larger numbers, shooting and destroying properties of the people. Three more persons were killed in the attack even the Ayilamo Police Station was touched by the invaders.

“As we speak the farming community has been deserted the people have fled their homes seeking safer places and communities to take refuge.

“The development in Ayilamo is pathetic, the people particularly women and children are in dire situation and are in urgent need of help because they have been displaced.”

The Chairman of Logo Local Government Council, Clement Ukav, who confirmed the development assured that actions were being taken to end the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene could not be reached for a confirmation of the development.
