The Labour Party (LP) has rejected claims by Senator Nenadi Usman, interim national chairperson appointed by stakeholders, that her committee saved the party from deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Obiora Ifoh, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, described Usman’s statement as “ludicrous, unattainable, unsubstantiated and a pack of lies.” He emphasized, “The Labour Party is in good shape, having fully abided by the laws of the land, and therefore cannot be deregistered by INEC.”
Ifoh further stated, “It’s paradoxical that leaders who were victims of INEC’s mismanagement of the 2023 general election are now quoting INEC to victimize the Labour Party leadership.”

He highlighted that the September 4 stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia was “unconstitutional and illegal” and that Usman’s leadership has “no foundation whatsoever.”

Ifoh also pointed out that court rulings have affirmed Julius Abure as the rightful national chairman, and reminded Usman that INEC is bound by the laws of the land.

“We urge Senator Usman and her co-travellers to retrace their steps for the interest of the party and Nigerians, as 2027 is fast approaching. Factionalising the party will help no one’s interest,” Ifoh said.
The dispute highlights the ongoing internal crisis within the Labour Party.
