    Kano flood death toll rises to 49

    The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reported that the death toll from recent flooding in the state has increased to 49.

    According to SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Isyaku Kubarachi, the number of affected local government areas has also risen to 27.

    Kubarachi stated that the flooding has affected 226 communities, destroyed 6,583 houses, and impacted 38,814 persons.

    Additionally, 8,289 farmlands equivalent to 36,265 hectares were destroyed, displacing 1,414 persons and injuring 139 others.

    SEMA has responded to the situation by visiting affected areas, distributing relief materials, and organizing workshops to address environmental hazards.

    The agency has commended Governor Abba Yusuf for his support and is calling on individuals to provide additional assistance to flood victims.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) had previously predicted a high risk of flooding in 14 local government areas of the state.”
