    Gunmen abduct Babcock University Hospital staff

    Pandemonium on Thursday evening enveloped the Ilisan-Remo community in Ikenne local government area of Ogun State, as gunmen abducted an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer with Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Mrs. Elizabeth Uruakpa.

    Uruakpa, a widow, was said to be coming from the evening Church service when the gunmen who had laid ambush swooped on her at the entrance of her house behind the new Ilisan market.
    The incident reportedly threw the neighbourhood into panic as many residents and shop owners quickly shut their doors to avoid being caught unaware.
    Speaking on the incident, a resident of the community, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said “the woman was coming back from the church in the evening around 7pm when the gunmen abducted her.

    She is a person I know very well. She’s a senior nursing staff with Babcock University Teaching Hospital and she is a member of Winners’ Chapel.
    “They dragged her down from her vehicle and put her in their red Toyota car and sped away. It was really like a thunder lightning and such thing has never happened before in our neighbourhood, it is so strange and scary”.
    On his part, the Director of Communication and Marketing of the university, Dr Joshua Suleiman, also confirmed the development.
    Dr Suleiman said, “I heard about it last night, through one of the university’s platforms but I don’t have comprehensive report. We are already working on getting more information about the incident and as soon as it is ready, I will get across to you. Thanks for reaching out”.
    Confirming the incident in a message posted on her X handle, spokesperson of the Ogun State Police command, SP Omolola Odutola, said  “On September 5, a distress call was received from Ilishan near new market at about 1710hrs that one Elizabeth Uruakpa was abducted by young armed men who blocked her Honda CRV with their unregistered Red Toyota Camry, and zoomed off with her. Updates later”.
