    Mafa Massacre: 37 corpses ready for burial in Yobe

    Following the deadly attacks by suspected members of Boko Haram Terrorists on Mafa village of Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe state, 37 out of the 87 corpses which were recovered from the scene are ready for burial on Tuesday morning, sources have said.

    Mafa village is close to Shekau, the ancestral home of the late Boko Haram Leader/Founder, Sheikh Abubakar Shekau.

    The deputy Governor of the State, Idi Barde Gubana would attend the burial on half the state governor, Mai Mala Buni who is outside the country on an official engagement.

    According to security source, 37 corpses are now kept in Babangida General Hospital as the burial is slated to take place by 10am at the Emir’s palace in Tarmuwa town.

    Recall that Boko Haram Terrorists raided Mafa last Sunday around 4pm when worshippers were about to conclude their Asr prayers at a mosque and opened fire on the victims, after separating elderly and herdsmen from the congregation.

    One of the survivors, who spoke to our Correspondent on condition of anonymity said he escaped by a whiskers

    “I was lucky to come out of the mosques early, I saw them (insurgents) waiting, one of them shouted that I should go back but I ran way.

    “We counted about 87 corpses after the terrorists left. Unfortunately no security operatives was present at scene even after the attack.

    “Out of the 37 recovered corpses, all the other 50 decomposed corpses are still kept in Mafa for mass burial today”, he said.

    Our Correspondent observed that security operatives in the area have been degrading terrorists without giving adequate security cover to the community who claimed that the insurgents latest deadly attack was on suspicion that some members of the community have been giving privilege information on the modus operandi of the insurgents to security agencies, hence the reprisal attack.
