    Sea pirates kidnap 10 travelers on Rivers waterways

    Gunmen suspected to be sea pirates have kidnapped 10 persons in Rivers State.

    The victims according to reports were picked on Monday morning on Bonny-Port Harcourt waterways.

    It was gathered that the gunmen had accosted a boat travelling to Port Harcourt from Bonny and whisked away the 10 passengers.

    The District Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Rivers State District, Israel Waribo Pepple, who confirmed the development said 10 people were involved.

    He noted that the 10 persons were abducted by the sea pirates along the bonny Port-Harcourt sea route.

    Pepple said the incident happened Monday and that the boat was Port Harcourt bound before the criminals struck on the high sea.

    Meantime, the Rivers State Police Command confirmed the development.

    Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintended of Police, said the command has tasked its Officer in Charge of Marine Operations, and other top security officers to investigate the situation.

    She further said the Police are working hard to ensure that the kidnap victims are released unhurt and, as well ensure arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
