Amidst Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as Country of Particular Concern, CPC, two men shot dead and one kidnapped in Sarkin Noma, Keana local government in a night attack by suspected killer herdsmen.
Lafia/Makurdi high way has been blocked by angry youths of Sarkin Noma community in their hundred trooped out in protest demanding the federal and state governments to rise to their responsibility of protecting them.
An eye witness who would not want his name mentioned on print said that “exactly 11:30pm to 12am some suspected Fulani herders invaded into the community and killed two persons and went with one person.
A youth leader in the community, Mr. Ogu Iliya regretted that the protest became necessary to draw the attention of the authorities to their plight and demand urgent intervention.
He explained that gunmen, numbering about fifty, stormed the community between midnight and the early hours of Friday, shooting sporadically and abducting an elderly resident.
According to him, the youths mobilized in self-defence but two of them were shot dead during the encounter.
Mr. Iliya lamented that the latest attack was the twelfth in recent times, adding that residents have been living in fear and helplessness.
“Any resident who sells their farm produce and returns from the market at night is at risk. These gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, come to kidnap them until ransom is paid. It has become unbearable. The elder taken last night is still missing, and we don’t know his condition,” he said.
