The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Major General Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd), former Chief of Staff to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a statement issued by his Media Team, the Sultan also conveyed his sympathies to the Emir of Ilorin and the government of Kwara State over the loss of one of their distinguished sons, who passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the age of 86.

Describing the late General’s passing as “sorrowful though inevitable,” the Sultan praised Mohammed’s life of service, discipline, and patriotism.

He noted that the deceased was a respected military officer and elder statesman who contributed immensely to Nigeria’s development both in military and civilian capacities.

“Late General Mohammed was not only a fine and brilliant officer but also a patriotic Nigerian, disciplined officer, and a man of unquestionable integrity who dedicated his life to national service,” the Sultan stated.

Offering prayers for the repose of his soul, the Sultan added, “Since Allah, who gives life, takes it at any time He wishes, we are incapacitated, leaving us to the only option of fervently praying and requesting that Allah forgives him his sins and repose his soul in Al-Jannah Firdaus, Ameen.”

Major General Abdullahi Adamgba Mohammed (rtd) served as the Military Governor of Benue-Plateau State under General Murtala Mohammed’s regime between 1975 and 1976. He later became Chief of Staff during the administrations of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo (1999–2007) and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (2007–2008).

He passed away at his residence in Abuja, leaving behind a legacy of distinguished service to Nigeria.
