Maryam Abubakar Mu’az has been crowned the standout performer at the recently concluded Qur’an recitation competition held in honour of the late Abibatu Mogaji Tinubu, mother of President Bola Tinubu.

The event culminated in an exceptional display of memorisation and recitation skills, with Mu’az earning her the top prize of a brand-new three-bedroom house.

Organised by Senator Bashir Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, the competition drew over 100 participants from the 44 local government areas of the state. Its primary aim was to promote the reading and memorisation of the Holy Qur’an among young Nigerians while celebrating the legacy of the late matriarch.

During the prize presentation, Prof. Ali Muhammad, Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee, emphasized that the competition was part of efforts to immortalise Madam Abibatu Mogaji and foster Islamic values among Nigerian youth. The winners received attractive prizes, including well-furnished houses—three-bedroom units for first-place winners and two-bedroom units for second-place winners, each featuring a parlour to enhance comfort.

Muhammad explained, “This initiative encourages young Muslims to deepen their devotion to the Qur’an and uphold its teachings. It aims to cultivate patriotic citizens who contribute positively to national development.”

The competition’s winners are: Maryam Abubakar Mu’az (first place, female), Ahmad Shu’aib (first place, male), Zainab Hassan Shu’aib (second place, female), and Ahmad Kabir Bature (second place, male).

The event’s opening ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Emir of Daura, and former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika. They praised Tinubu’s efforts in repositioning the economy and fostering national progress. Prayers for peace, unity, and development in Nigeria also featured prominently during the event.
