Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has approved a staggering N730 million scholarship for 26,888 indigenous students pursuing higher education across Nigeria.

This significant investment underscores Zulum’s commitment to empowering Borno’s youth through quality education.

The scholarship payment was officially handed over by Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, to the Borno State Scholarship Board during a ceremony at the Quality Assurance office’s conference hall on Monday.

According to Engr. Wakilbe, the scholarship will benefit 26,888 undergraduates, with immediate effect. Notably, Zulum’s administration has spent over N8 billion on scholarships for local and international students this year alone.

Engr. Wakilbe emphasized that payment will commence immediately and urged students to ensure accurate bank details to prevent transaction issues.

He warned that failed payments would be reallocated for other purposes. Wakilbe also encouraged students to explore additional opportunities through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and challenged student leaders to make full use of available resources.
National Union of Borno State Students President Abdullahi Ahmadu Umara expressed profound gratitude to Governor Zulum for his unwavering commitment to education.

Another student, Abba Ali Abba Gana, announced plans to honor Zulum as “Student-Friendly Governor” and Wakilbe as “Architect of Modern Education” for their dedication to advancing education in Borno State.
