The Senator representing Lagos West, Idiat Oluranti Adebule, on Sunday, kicked off the distribution of 1,200 50kg bags of rice to constituents.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, flagged off the rice distribution, intended for residents in the 10 local councils within the Lagos West Senatorial District.

During the event, Adebule said, “Today’s event will mark the third time we are distributing rice as End-of-Year goodness to constituent families in order to make the yuletide enjoyable for the good people of the Lagos West Senatorial District. I therefore urge all the beneficiaries to ensure the largesse is shared with family and friends so that happiness can be spread to all and sundry during this period.”

She also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support, adding, “It is important to acknowledge our hardworking, compassionate, performing, and listening leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has consistently supported members of the National Assembly as representatives of the people in reaching out to Nigerians through the distribution of food palliatives as part of ways and means to cushion the effects of the high cost of living occasioned by the difficult but necessary economic reforms embarked upon by the government to rescue our country from the path of unsustainable economic policies of the past.”

She said: “I therefore urge all Nigerians to support our President and the Government to deliver stability, peace, and sustainable prosperity to our nation. The worst is over, and we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel.”

Adebule thanked Yilwatda for attending the event, describing his presence as a sign of commitment to the people’s welfare.
“As 2024 draws to an end, we should remind ourselves of the many challenges and triumphs we have experienced individually and collectively as Nigerians, especially the people of Lagos West, the largest Senatorial District in Nigeria in terms of human population and number of polling units,” she said.

The senator highlighted several initiatives she has supported, including entrepreneurial training, starter packages, and N50,000 empowerment funds for 1,000 youths and women.

She also emphasized the ongoing distribution of food palliatives, including rice, to thousands of constituents, with particular attention to the elderly and physically challenged.

“We also have ongoing capital projects such as the construction of a block of classrooms at Community Primary School, Oshodi, and a Skills Acquisition Centre at Adeleye Primary School, Mushin,” the former Lagos state deputy governor said.

Yilwatda hailed President Tinubu’s efforts in mitigating the economic challenges.
He revealed plans for the implementation of conditional cash transfers, noting, “15 million households, with five people each, will benefit from conditional cash transfers. The government will ensure transparency in the implementation.”

He further mentioned that the cash transfers would be in addition to grants and loans targeting vulnerable people, including farmers and small businesses.
