A socio-political group, Ogoni Development Drive, ODD, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the national working committee, NWC, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to resolve as quickly as possible the political crisis rocking Rivers state.
The group which described the political crisis as nauseating also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prevail on the Minister of the federal capital territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike over some of his provocative utterances capable of setting Nigeria ablaze.
In a statement jointly signed by its convener, Comrade Solomon Lenu and Barr Celestine Nikiri, secretary, ODD declared that it would be compelled to mobilize against the President’s reelection bid in 2027 if the crisis in Rivers state continues to fester
“Mr. President should rein in the minister of FCT who have made himself a thorn in the flesh of Rivers people, or forget our support in 2027. In fact, he should relieve him of his position immediately. Wike should stop playing God, because even the questionable support he gave to the PDP when he was Governor was done with Rivers money, and not with his personal money or inheritance”.
The statement noted that if Wike continues to use any unprintable words such as the one he used yesterday, (unstable character) “ODD shall mobilize Rivers people from all corners of the state to disrespect him in equal measure in a mass protest because he cannot be bigger than the state that made him.
“We give the national leadership of the PDP 14 days to resolve all grey areas in the Rivers state PDP to give Governor Fubara a breathing space failure which we will mobilize massively against the party in the state”.
The group however called on Governor Fubara to prevail on the minister using any legal means to give adequate financial account of his stewardship as governor of Rivers state for eight years, saying, “this is important because in 2015, Wike accused his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi of leaving empty treasury and not giving him a handover note. Why should Wike do the same to Fubara!

The group said that Wike’s statement about setting any state on fire whose governor interferes in the ongoing crisis in Rivers state was unfortunate, adding that it is a clear evidence that the minister does not want peace in the state.
According to the ODD statement, “it is a shame that at a time when the APC government is struggling to stabilize the country economically and security-wise, Wike is busy insulting the sensibility of Nigerians who are presently languishing in abject difficulties by talking about 2027 elections. This is a height of insensitivity”.
