Kaduna – Few days after breathing air of freedom,some of the protesters arrested during the August 2024 EndBadGovernance protest, have denied being tortured while in the office of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Kaduna state.
They told journalists that they were released a month ago from the DSS office and reiterated that nothing as such happened to them at that time.
The freed persons were Disc Jockeys(DJs) who played music during the protest in Kaduna and not among those arrested and taken to court in Abuja, journalists were told.
“They were released earlier in October 2024 following the directive from the new DSS Director General, who reviewed their case immediately after he took over and met them in custody.”

“Dahiru Hamza, also known as DJ Zariya, from Tudun Wada, Kaduna, stated that their release followed the DSS DG’s decision upon realizing their innocence.”
“I was arrested on the 8th of August, 2024. We were detained, but we were neither tortured nor starved. However, We were released without having to pay any bail and were asked to go and collect our sound systems on the order of the DGSS,” he explained.
Hamza said he was misled by some of the protest organizers, who told him that the security agencies had given them permission to protest in the state and called on the government to create more employment opportunities for the country’s youth.
Isa Abdullahi, aka DJ SP , who.also operated iin Kaduna, also denied being tortured by the DSS while in detention,saying that he was able to communicate with his wife during his time in custody without any issues.
He was full of praises for he DSS Director General who “ordered their release without any condition or charges.
Khaleed, said to be the coordinator of the protest and hired the freed protesters, allegedly told them they had sought the clearance of the security to organize the protest.He was also released, as all charges against him were dropped on the order of the Director General of the State Security Services and had since, reunited with his family.
