ABUJA – The National Industrial Court has been petitioned to stop Prof. Carol Umobi and others from claiming to be the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

The Incorporated Trustees of Medical and Dental Consultants Association of NAUTH and Dr. Victor Modekwe filed the originating summons, NICN/ABJ/383/2024.
According to the claimants, “the University took discriminatory steps against Dr. Modekwe and others in the medical and dental field in the process it adopted for the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.”
The claimants’ legal team, led by Mr. J.I Ekeoma, stated, “Despite several demands, the university is still taking steps to appoint a new Vice Chancellor based on the discriminatory advert publication.”
The claimants are seeking a restraining order against the Acting VC and others, arguing that Medical Fellowship is equivalent to a Ph.D for appointment purposes.
They urge the court to declare Dr. Modekwe qualified to contest the Vice Chancellor position and invalidate the discriminatory newspaper advertorial.
No hearing date has been set.
