Tragedy struck in Kano as Hafsatu Yusuf who delivered quintuplets in the state early Thursday died less than 24 hours after given birth to the five babies.
Hafsatu, was confirmed dead by doctors at the hospital. She was said to have had successful delivery of the five babies—three boys and two girls at a state government owned hospital, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar confirmed that the quintuplets mother died from severe postpartum bleeding despite efforts by medical personnel to save her life.
Abubakar said she died as a result of complications which occured hours after delivery.
According to him, “the patient developed complications after delivery and despite all medical interventions to save her life, unfortunately, she succumbed.

“Although, earlier medical scans indicated that the expectant mother was carrying triplets, additional babies were delivered as labour progressed, resulting in the birth of quintuplets – three boys and two girls,” he said.
Abubakar, however, said the newborns were currently receiving intensive care at the hospital.
Recall that the state government has taking responsibility of the medical care of the mother and her babies.
