PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu on Thursday, assured the United States that his administration will defeat terrorism in the country.

President Tinubu in apparent response to the concerns raised by President Donald Trump, said despite the political headwind, Nigerian government will continue to engage with its partners.

This is as the Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has said that the nation’s economy is witnessing a progressive growth

Edun stated that the Nigeria GDP grew by 4.23 percent in the second quarter of 2025, noting that it was the highest quarterly figure in a decade aside the post covid era.

President Tinubu spoke shortly after the swearing-in new two Ministers from Enugu and Plateau States.

The two Ministers who took the oath of office at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, are Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, from Enugu State and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State.

Dr. Udeh, who until his nomination was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu state, replaced Chief Uche Nnaji, the immediate past Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned his appointment over the alleged forged certificate, while Dr. Doro also replaced Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the current national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The brief exercise was preceded by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by President Tinubu.

Responding to the presentation made by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy over the steady growth of the economy, President Tinubu said:

“The most important thing is the fact that despite the political headwind and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with our partners. The success of the 2.3 billion bond over subscribed is the most at this stage.

“So, the task ahead is immense. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in the country.

“The task ahead is immense but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, guided by renewed hope, agenda to build a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Nigeria.”

The FEC observed a minute silence in honour the passing of Senator Solomon Ewuga, a former member of the of the Federal Executive Council and the former Chief of Staff to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Mohammed Abdullahi.

Senator Ewuga was a Minister of State Federal Capital Territory under the President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, while Gen. Abdullah served as the military governor of Benue Plateau State, and later the first Director General of the Nigerian Security Organization.
