President Bola Tinubu has extended his warmest congratulations to Chief Chris Olufunmilola Okunowo and his wife, Erelu Morenikeji Okunowo, on their upcoming investiture as Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu and Yeye Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on December 7th.
The President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, expressed gratitude to CAN for recognizing the Okunowos’ decades-long dedication to advancing the work of God and humanity across Ijebuland.
Chief Olufunmilola Okunowo, a distinguished lawyer, philanthropist, and community leader, will join the ranks of illustrious Ijebu sons, including the late Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola and Chief Michael Olasubomi Balogun, in receiving this prestigious honor.
The investiture coincides with two significant milestones: the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary and Chief Okunowo’s 77th birthday.

President Tinubu acknowledged that the esteemed title Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu now extends its influence to the entire Ijebuland, cementing the Okunowos’ legacy as pillars of their community.
Chief Okunowo is a business leader with extensive experience in aviation equipment supply and aircraft sales. He has held influential roles, including President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute of Directors, and currently serves as the chairman of the Ijebu Congress.
In addition to his new title, he holds the Chieftaincy titles of Akowajo of Awo-Ekiti and Bamolu of Egba Land.
President Tinubu praised the Okunowos’ unwavering commitment to service and leadership, wishing them continued success and fulfillment in their future endeavors.
