Tears flowed freely on Saturday in Uga, Aguata, Local Government Area Anambra State as the remains of Chikaima Ejezie, female, nine; Chimziterem Ejezie, female, eight and Chimdirim Ejezie, male, five, the three siblings killed by unidentified assailants in Nnewichi, in Nnewi North Local Area of the state, early February, were laid to rest.
The three siblings, were killed and their lifeless bodies stuffed inside a freezer on Saturday, February 1, 2025, while their mother was away for an examination.
It was gathered that the assailants invaded their apartment while the children were inside, killed them and stuffed their lifeless bodies inside the deep freezer in their apartment and vanished, leaving the entire apartment open, unusual of the family way of living.
The Archbishop, Ekwulobia Diocese, Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke, conducted the burial mass with over 30 Priests from different religious denominations, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Umueze Uga, in Aguata Council area of the state.
The burial mass also had many royal fathers, and Local Government Chairmen and Councillors and community members and sympathizers in attendance.
Cardinal Okpalaeke, in his sermon said that killing has been an ugly incident people have been engaging in since the creation of man, noting that the unfortunate and heart breaking thing is that the children were killed in their early age, and have therefore become martyrs.
Cardinal Okpalaeke, who took his preaching from the Biblical happenings from the old Testament, citing Cain and Abel as an example of where killing was done from creation irrespective of relationship, however warned those engaging in the heinous crime or risk ending the same way.
“Killing of innocent souls has been there since the biblical origin of creation. Cain did it it to Abel and God gave punishment to Cain for killing his brother. When God asked Cain ‘Where is your brother, Abel’ Cain said, ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’ And God pronounced punishment on Cain for killing his brother Abel.
“In the same way, curse is pronounced on anybody that has a hand in the death of these children. We condemn the killing of these children and we say anyone who has a hand in it will not know peace.
“Am warning those who engage in killing innocent souls to stop and repent or risk being killed the same way you have been cutting short the lives of innocent soul. You can never have peace if you continue to engage in killing of people, that is an assurance.
Shortly after the burial mass, there was high rising emotions when family members friends, schoolmates, and sympathisers gathered to bid farewell to Chikaima, Chimziterem and Chimdirim, the murdered siblings.
Parents of Mr and Mrs Udochukwu Ejezie, described the loss of their children as an unimaginable nightmare and the greatest shock of their lives.
They however expressed gratitude to God keeping them till date and thanked the sympathizers for their overwhelming support, just as they thanked the Anambra State government and the Nigerian Police for all their assistance and supports, while urging relevant authorities to step up investigation to unravel the killers of their innocent children.
