Tears in the land: Bandits strike Niger state again, kill 26 people

Published on

Minna – In a devastating attack, bandits have once again ravaged communities in Niger state’s Borgu local government area, leaving a trail of death and destruction. The attackers, estimated to be dozens, swooped on the villages of Feyi, Tungan Makeri, and Nkpaso, killing at least 26 people and abducting scores more.

“It was a night of terror,” a source close to the community told our reporter. “The bandits came on motorbikes, shooting and burning everything in their path. We had to run for our lives.”

The attackers set a police station in Pissa ablaze and torched several houses, leaving residents with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

“We’re living in fear,” said a resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “These bandits come and go as they please, and we can’t do anything.”

The state police command confirmed the attack, with Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, stating, “We received reports of the attack, and joint security teams have been mobilized to the scene. We’re working to rescue the abducted victims.”

The attack is the latest in a string of bandit raids in the area, with many calling for increased security measures to protect the communities.

*”This is a tragedy that could have been prevented,”* said a local leader. *”We need action, not just words.”*

The people of Borgu are counting their dead and praying for the safe return of those taken.
