Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) to play a pivotal role in unlocking national prosperity, a key objective of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Shettima made this appeal during the council’s fourth meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“The work of this council has never been more crucial, especially in our current economic climate,” Shettima emphasized. “Maximizing value from our core national assets is vital to President Tinubu’s economic agenda. We must take an active role in achieving this goal.”

Shettima stressed the importance of constructive leadership, fairness and transparency. “Posterity will judge us kindly if we act with fairness towards the Nigerian people. Our citizens need strong and decisive leadership, and today’s decisions will shape our future,” he added.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Ayodeji Gbeleyi, presented the bureau’s proposed 2025 work plan, focusing on revenue-generating projects and concession management capacity.

Gbeleyi also provided updates on the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), aimed at enhancing grid management and transparency.

The council received updates on the restructured Kano, Kaduna, Benin and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Companies. Additionally, discussions covered regulatory oversight transfers for electricity markets in several states, including Edo, Enugu, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Oyo and Ondo. The proposed relocation of four turbines from the Afam Power Plant to the Ughelli Power Plant to boost national grid supply was also addressed.
