    Senator Ned Nwoko wins prestigious Human Rights award

    Senator Ned Nwoko, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, has been recognized with the 2024 Human Rights Man of the Year Award by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA).

    This prestigious honor acknowledges his outstanding performance in the 10th Senate and transformative initiatives that have positively impacted Delta North and beyond.

    HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, noted that Senator Nwoko’s exemplary contributions to legislative excellence, community development, and human rights advancement in Nigeria earned him the award.

    The Senator’s impressive legislative record includes sponsoring 25 bills and moving 19 motions within two years, surpassing many of his contemporaries.

    Notable achievements include the Data Protection Bill, addressing digital privacy and security concerns, and motions tackling critical issues like flooding and environmental hazards.

    His advocacy for a National Social Security Agency to replace the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has gained significant traction, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s recent executive proposal.

    Senator Nwoko’s commitment to community development is evident in initiatives such as awarding scholarships, installing solar-powered streetlights, constructing boreholes, and organizing free medical outreach programs in Delta North.

    His establishment of Africa’s first Sports University in Idumuje-Ugboko has created unique opportunities for youth development and economic empowerment.

    HURIWA commended Senator Nwoko’s passionate advocacy for the creation of Anioma State, a movement rooted in Delta North communities’ aspirations for justice and equity. His leadership demonstrates determination to address systemic marginalization and ensure equitable representation.

    The award ceremony will take place on December 10, 2024, International Human Rights Day, in Abuja, celebrating Senator Nwoko’s achievements and urging public officials to prioritize human rights, justice, and equitable development. Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude to HURIWA and reiterated his commitment to justice, equity, and human rights advocacy.
