In a move to alleviate the suffering of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno State, the Federal Government has partnered with the state government to ensure the dignified repatriation of all people displaced by Boko Haram terrorists.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nantawe Goshewe Yilwatda, made this announcement during a courtesy call on Governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri.

“I am here in Borno as my first official assignment/visit for ‘On-The -Spot Assessment’. I assured you that the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in collaboration with National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security are to partner with Borno State Government to ensure dignified repatriation of all people who were displaced by activities of Boko Haram terrorists currently taking refuge in Cameroon, Niger and Chad Republic,” Professor Yilwatda said.

The Minister also launched the “Renewed Hope Agric Empowerment Project” (RHAEPIDPs), which aims to empower IDPs and other victims of flood disasters through agricultural interventions.

The project includes the distribution of relief items, such as food and non-food items, to hundreds of displaced heads of households.
“I want to use this opportunity to commiserate with the Government and people of the state over the humanitarian crisis posed by insurgents, and recently, the flood disaster which has claimed many lives, displaced millions of residents in Maiduguri, the state capital, with critical infrastructures destroyed,” Professor Yilwatda added.

The Federal Government’s partnership with the Borno State Government marks a significant step towards addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region. The partnership will focus on the repatriation of refugees, agricultural empowerment, and the distribution of relief items.
“I also commend Governor Zulum and the people of the state for their resilience, even as I pledged that my Ministry, with support from President Tinubu will offer needed support for all victims of man-made and natural disasters to have means of livelihood with durable solutions,” Professor Yilwatda said.
The Minister’s visit to Borno State is a testament to the Federal Government’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of IDPs and other victims of the conflict. With the partnership between the Federal Government and the state government, hope is renewed for the IDPs and other victims of the conflict.
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has also constructed hundreds of housing estates for displaced persons, providing them with a sense of dignity and hope for a better future.

“I want to assure that Borno should be mainstreamed in developing the Humanitarian Master Plan (HMP) for Nigeria and Nigerians, which would be unveiled in January 2025,” Professor Yilwatda said.
The Minister’s announcement has brought joy and relief to the IDPs, who have been living in camps for years. The partnership between the Federal Government and the state government is a significant step towards addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region and providing a better future for the IDPs.
