The Oyo State Police Command has announced the discovery of the lifeless body of an unidentified woman in the Egbeda area of Ibadan and has appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying the deceased.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command said the discovery was reported on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters by a good Samaritan.

According to the statement, the informant reported that earlier the same day, upon arriving at his car wash stand located around Ile Marun, Iwo Road, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan, he noticed the lifeless body of a woman lying inside a nearby drainage channel.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of police operatives led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Egbeda Division, promptly moved to the scene. On arrival, the lifeless body of an unidentified woman was found lying inside the drainage,” the statement said.

The police added that a preliminary examination of the corpse revealed visible marks of violence around the head region, suggesting possible foul play.

Photographs of the scene were taken, after which the body was evacuated and deposited at the mortuary of Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.

The Command said an investigation has commenced, with efforts ongoing to determine both the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Oyo State Police Command hereby appeals to members of the public, particularly individuals whose female family members or relatives are currently missing, to report to the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters or contact the nearest police station to assist in identifying the deceased. Such cooperation will greatly aid the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.

The police assured residents that “no stone will be left unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.”

Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with credible information that could help ensure the safety and security of residents across the state.

“For emergencies, residents may contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line on 615, or the Oyo State Police Command control room via 08081768614 and 07055495413,” the statement added.
