In a bid to transform the livestock subsector into a viable employer of labor, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has announced plans to establish the Ministry of Livestock Development by January 2025.

This move is expected to address lingering security challenges, generate revenue, and promote economic growth in the state.

Governor Mutfwang made this disclosure during a stakeholders’ engagement forum in Jos, where he met with the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, led by Professor Attahiru Jega.

The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for initiating practical measures to revive the livestock sector, saying it has the potential to create employment, grow the GDP, and advance technological progress.

“I must congratulate Mr. President for taking the bull by the horns,” Governor Mutfwang said. “This initiative presents opportunities to de-escalate conflicts, create employment, grow our GDP, and advance technological progress.”

Professor Jega, Co-Chairman of the Committee, praised Governor Mutfwang’s enthusiasm and commitment to realizing the immense potential of the livestock sector.

He assured the governor of the committee’s full support in transforming Plateau State into a model for livestock development.

The Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee was established in July 2024 to harness opportunities within the livestock sector.

The committee is engaging stakeholders nationwide to promote the initiative and explore its vast opportunities for economic and social development.
