The Dangote Group has expressed deep sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season (Bbnaija) 7 winner, Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, who died following a recent accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.
In a condolence statement signed by the Management and dated August 31, 2025, the company disclosed that arrangements had been concluded for Ruth to be flown to India for advanced treatment before her death.
The statement read: “Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family. Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”
Dangote Group further extended condolences to the Otabor family, describing the incident as painful despite the company’s interventions.
The statement added: “At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”

Ruth had suffered a tragic accident just weeks earlier.
She underwent a leg amputation after being hit by a truck linked to Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Eyewitnesses said the heavy-duty truck crushed her leg before it was eventually stopped by a bystander.
The accident occurred only six days after Ruth graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Her sudden death has left the family and fans in mourning.
