Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi visited Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti, to discuss the defamation case against human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi.

The meeting, held at Babalola’s office on Monday evening, aimed to explore alternative resolution options for the ongoing case.

Farotimi, a prominent member of the Obidient movement, was arraigned before a Magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti over allegations of defamation in his book, “Nigeria and Its Criminal Judicial System.”

The book’s content sparked a petition by Babalola, leading to the defamation charges.
The case took a new turn when the Inspector-General of Police filed a fresh suit against Farotimi at the Federal High Court, charging him with 12 counts of cybercrime.

Despite being granted bail of N50 million, Farotimi’s team is still working to perfect the bail conditions.
Sources suggest that a former President facilitated Obi’s visit to promote a peaceful resolution.

Obi also met with Farotimi at the correctional center on Monday evening, further emphasizing his commitment to finding an amicable solution.
