On Monday morning, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) staged a protest at the NestOil Towers in Lagos.

The union was demonstrating against alleged anti-labour practices by Neconde/Nestoil, a company that has been accused of violating workers’ rights.

Carrying placards with messages like “Obey Nigerian Law” and “No Victimisation of Our Members,” the protesters demanded that Nestoil respect its employees’ right to join unions without interference.

They also called for the company to address grievances related to pension payments and other labour rights.

The protest was led by members of the PENGASSAN Lagos Zone, who vowed to maintain their presence at the company’s premises until management engages with them and resolves the issues.

The union emphasized that it would not stand idly by while its members were mistreated.

According to the protesters, Nestoil has been engaging in anti-labour practices that have negatively impacted workers.

They demanded that the company take immediate action to address these issues and ensure fair treatment for all employees.

As of the time of the report, Nestoil management had yet to respond to the allegations or meet with the protesting union members.

The union’s determination to secure fair treatment for its members remains unwavering, with protesters declaring “An injury to one is an injury to all.”

The protest highlights the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

PENGASSAN’s actions demonstrate the union’s commitment to protecting its members and ensuring that companies like Nestoil adhere to labour laws and regulations.
