The NWC charged all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of the PDP to remain focused and committed to the vision, principles and aspiration of our great Party in the overall interest of the growth, development and stability of the PDP and the nation.

Recall that the PDP had been embroiled in crisis since it’s Presidential Primary held on

    May 28, 2022.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar polled 371 votes to defeat his closest rival former Rivers State Governor now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who polled 237 votes.

Wike led four of his then governor colleagues to form the Group of 5 or G5 governors as they were known to openly campaign against the PDP and its Presidential candidate.

They had among other things, demanded for the resignation of the now ousted National Chairman of the party, Sen. Iyiorchia Ayu insisting that the party leader and its Presidential candidate cannot come from the same geographical north at the same time.

Some state chapters of the party are also currently in turmoil as various tendencies scramble for the control of the soul of the party at all levels.
