In a bid to wrestle power from Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026, stakeholders in the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have urged the party leadership to zone the party’s ticket to the Osun-West senatorial district.
This call was made during a solidarity rally in Osogbo, where the group submitted a letter to the party secretariat, emphasizing the need for equity in power distribution in the state.
According to Obafemi Amoo, Coordinator of the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG), the party’s chances of returning to power in the state are higher with a candidate from Osun-West.

Amoo noted that the party has credible and viable candidates from the West and appealed to the leadership to consider this option in the best interest of the party and the state.
Amoo’s statement highlighted the imbalance in power distribution in the state, pointing out that governors from Osun East and Central senatorial districts have had their fair share of governance, while Osun West has been left out.
He emphasized that it is time for the party to give Osun West a chance to produce the next governor.
This development is not new, as there have been previous agitations for the zoning of the governorship ticket to Osun West.
In fact, a chieftain of the APC, Sunday Akere, had earlier disclosed that the party would zone its governorship ticket to Osun West if former Governor Gboyega Oyetola declines to run for another term.
The APC stakeholders’ call for a candidate from Osun West is seen as a strategic move to defeat Governor Adeleke in 2026. With the party’s focus on Osun West, it is likely that the next governorship candidate will emerge from this senatorial district.
